All in the Democrats plan for next year. Punish them now and maybe they will comply next go around on gun bans. Typical libtards.
Wonder how much of a raise they gave their security
Legislators are punishing the Sheriffs in Virginia for standing up for the people’s rights as the 2nd Amendment states clearly! I don’t want my gun rights messed with! DO YOU? For gosh sakes people wake up, Northam, the evil one, is trying to take all your rights away!
Good way for the Dems to lose more votes
Did anybody read up on this? They voted to give them a small raise this year and give them 3% on next year's budget.
Defeated by SASLAW, don't blame the whole Senate!
Democrats do not support the men and women that put their life on the line to protect Virginians in the counties. Well kiss this Democrat who supported Democrats for forty years goodbye.
Thanks Democrats. Remember this during the next election.
Well,... I’m sure that if they need Law Enforcement they will still show up to do their job. They are better men and women than the Democrats Representing them in Richmond.
Police need increase in pay
They should all be impeached! Quid pro quo 🤣
All because some sheriffs said they would not enforce the law if the 2nd amendment right had passed to confiscate firearms.. dirty politicians in Richmond !!!
Police get low pay to protect us. Congress gets rich screwing us over.
First, I had no idea that sherrif and deputy salaries were paid by the state, with optional bumps by the county/city.
Second, this is not the whole story. What was defeated, was an amendment to increase salaries by 3% this year. This was not budgeted. What did pass was a small raise this year and 3% for next year. But, politics.
How about the headline say Democrats stop pay increase for Sheriffs Deputies.
They took an oath to follow all laws, not just the ones they like. So if they choose not to, they shouldn’t get a raise.
Because they stood up for their rights
Just remember, demonrats control the State legislature and they’re pissed that the assault weapon ban has been tabled. Coincidence, I think not. They are evil, angry and vindictive. Let’s vote them out!!!
Vote Republican this year you won't have this problem
So uphold the constitution and the Democrats refuse to play?
“"I don't think sheriffs have said they're not going to enforce laws. I think what sheriffs have said is that they're going to uphold the Constitution. That's what I think sheriffs have said and I think that's being twisted," Carter.”
.and yet, they approved raises for the bureaucratic paper-pushers, and the elected grifters.
All because Politicians had their feelings hurt...pretty sad.

Brave woman. It's a bad time we are in where people are more interested in videoing instead of helping.

I used to live in Fredericksburg. I thought the auction block was a somber reminder and a good way to mark the banality of evil. It shows us what regular people can do to others while telling themselves that it's just another day at the auction.

No. 21 James Madison softball splits the first day of the Georgia Classic moving to 4-2 on the season. The Dukes dominated Austin Peay in six innings, but fell to No. 19 Georgia in 5 innings.

Senior Odicci Alexander (3-1) started and took the loss in the circle for JMU (4-2). In addition to her four hits, Gordon had a double, a home run and two RBIs to lead the Dukes. Senior Madison Naujokas furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs. Junior Hannah File also chipped in for JMU, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED The Dukes got the scoring started early, first putting runs on the board in the first inning with the game still scoreless. JMU's offense put up five runs, including a grand slam off the bat of Naujokas.
The Dukes then held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless before getting back on the board in the second inning. JMU picked up a run on Gordon's solo home run, which brought the Dukes lead to 6-0.

Freshman Chase DeLauter provided the heroics on Friday afternoon, hitting a walk off single in the 10th inning to propel James Madison to a win in their home opener against Quinnipiac.
Senior Brett Ayer (1-1) picked up the victory for JMU, going four shutout innings out of the bullpen. Ayer scattered two hits while striking out six. Junior Nick Stewart started for the Dukes on the mound and threw six scoreless innings while allowing four hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Freshman Chase DeLauter led the way offensively for the Dukes, going 2-for-5 in the ballgame with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED A pitching duel took over the afternoon at Eagle Field, as neither team could get a runner to cross the plate over the first nine innings. Quinnipiac couldn’t get much going in their half of the tenth, sending the Dukes to the plate.
After two ground outs to start the inning, sophomore Nick Zona reached on an infield single that sent DeLauter to the plate. The freshman then sliced a pitch to left center that allowed Zona, who was running on the pitch, to come all the way around to scoring the winning run.
GAME FACTS » Stewart and Ayer combined to shut out Quinnipiac. » JMU pitchers limited Quinnipiac to just 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. » Stewart picked off his first runner of the season. » DeLauter hit his first career walk off hit. » Michael Morgan threw out all three baserunners who attempted to steal on the day.
QUOTING HEAD COACH MARLIN IKENBERRY "I'm proud of the way our guys kept grinding tonight," said Ikenberry. "It was a good Friday night game! I thought Nick Stewart had great stuff. Quinnipiac did the same thing NC State did and just kept fouling balls off and getting his pitch count up. I was proud of how we played defense. We had some opportunities to score earlier in the game, but Quinnipiac's Nicolosi just making good pitches. The way we scored the winning run, Nick Zona beats out an infield single and is running on the pitch when Chase DeLauter hits it to left center field. We just kept playing hard and it won the game for us!"

A bill that gives tenants the power to make repairs on their property and deduct the costs from their rent, with conditions, recently passed the Virginia state Senate and is expected to advance in the...
Something positive from a democratic state and something I would most certainly do if it were necessary! And I know i would find contractors to do the work. Then the contractors can take the landlords to court for payment if landlord chooses not to pay.then most likely the person who gets said contractor to do work will most likely need to fine a new place to live afterwards....vicious circle. However this is good for those slumlords who need a wakeup call!
As a contractor and a landlord I don't think any reputable contractor would work on a property without the landlords approval.
Every person deserves dignified, safe housing. The working class should not have to give our wages to landlords who view us as an little more than an ATM.
Good! Owners of rental properties need to be put in check. First they create an unsafe environment for the tenant and second it brings surrounding property values down.
I think they should more of a law passed that Landlords should have to maintain and keep property up and up to date . They should have to repair stuff that breaks down with in 24 to 48 hours depending on urgency. I’ve rented before and it would be very frustrating when something would break down and it would take a week to a month to fix .
I would never be a landlord, none controlled by the government. Insanity
Amazing to me how as landlords we truly are made to feel like the “bad guy.” Tenants have more rights than the actual HOMEOWNER has. Many tenants make careers out of not paying rent knowing full well the system works in their favor time wise all the while landlord gets paid nothing for months!!!! Oh. And you have mice? Perhaps if you didn’t have piles of trash laying everywhere you wouldn’t have them. Or here is an idea. GO BUY MOUSE TRAPS???? There ARE great renters, but they are far and few between. I’ve gone into properties WITH A SHOVEL to clean them out after tenant has lived in MY home rent free for 4 months. Just as there are good tenants, there are good landlords that lead a hardworking and honest life-not out looking for the next hit of meth.
The law clearly says if landlord doesnt. So landlords who don't respond it's on you. Treat people right...no problem.
Raising the minimum wage does NOT equal or facilitate affordable housing, the two are unrelated. The permeating sense of entitlement is the root of the issue where rents are not paid.
My last individual landlord put me in the hospital with mold exposure. They left standing water under the gas furnace. The ductwork was full of mold. Roaches inhabited the refrigerator and I had to pay the exterminator for removal. It cost ME, as a tennant, thousands in medical bills, exterminator fees, I had to replace my small appliances because the roaches got in those. I had to pay to have the yard cleaned up from the previous tennants so my guy, I paid, could safely mow. A nightmare!
And I had no rights. My money. Mine and my daughter's health and I had no rights.
My credibility on my new job was lost due to the house issues that I had to take off work for. No attorney will touch it. I don't receive government money to pay my bills. Thus, no rights as a tennant.
Don't even try to talk about poor pitiful landlords. I moved into a way overpriced corporate apartment community. I rent by choice, I purchased property that devalued and have been gun shy of taking on a mortgage since.
The house flippers are killing the market for individuals...greed is destroying so much.
I hate dealing corporate but when doing so have never had uncared for property. Housing is nightmare if you are single or not upper middle class...and the root cause is greed. Disgusting.
I wonder what is next on the agenda?? This is more government in our lives. There has to be something done about all of this so be sure to vote in the next election.
I’d like to be able to collect the $3000 in rent they didn’t pay and the $3000 in damages I had to fix.
But I’m not going to see ANY of it despite having a judgement for it. They will get off Scott free!
how would.the renters prove they tried to contact the landlord about the problems before they fixed it
That's ridiculous. It opens the doors to allowing sub-standard and/or overpriced contractors to work on...and possibly ruin or at lest devalue...somebody else's house.
If anything, they should introduce a bill which would allow renters to put the rent money into a specific fund until repairs are done by the landlord or his/her own contractor. This is done in a lot of jurisdictions and seems to work fine.
Very shaky ground. If you haven't been a landlord...it may sound good, but it could be a real hornets nest. You're assuming renters are honest and responsible. Tough call.
There has to be something done with housing requirements. It's not easy for people to make three times the rent payment single with kids. Even with rental history of two years of on time rent payments, decent credit score and five years same job work history. I don't have mom and dad to live with to I'm 40 so paying for education also just to make more money to pay more in housing. This is messed up and WE NEEDED TRUMP! HE IS YOUR PRESIDENT!!
And getting the contractor paid this way...won’t be an issue at all 🤦♀️
Easy scam. Tenant hires 'contractor' friend. Contractor friend is 'charged' $200 under the table but bills for $800. Tennant takes $800 off their rent, landlord foots the fraud bill.
How about cracking down on slumlords instead of giving people the authority to do whatever on property that they don’t own?
I can feel for landlords. Working at a hotel part time as a desk clerk it has been jaw dropping. Enormous damage and expensive repairs to just one room.
I work for a property management company in Virginia I see all sorts of problems with this.
I can only hope that those supporting this can afford to buy instead of rent. Rentals will become hard to find because property owners will most likely not want to take a chance on someone who doesn’t own the Property making calls as to the repairs that are needed. Those that stay in the rental market will most likely be raising the rent to accommodate this extra expense.
People just love big government. They need the government too tell them how to live.
If you pay your rent, keep your place clean and meet any conditions of your lease and the landlord still refuses to make repairs you should have recourse. Deposits are always required and rarely given back. I rented a house with a leak from oil heater, never got fixed, called health dept and city building inspector. Was told that if I reported it I would most likely get evicted. When I saw black soot on child's face after sleeping, I moved. Didn't get my deposit back.
I can see both sides of this. I remember looking for a place to rent. People said they would let it fall down before they would put up with renters, but on the other hand I left places in better shape when I left than it was when I moved in. I heard they were going to pass a law that said a landlord would not be able to turn government assistance d renters down. Ewe! Seems like people just don’t take care and pride in themselves anymore in the way they live!
Sorry to hear that. I've rented houses in the past. I checked the house carefully before I signed the contract. I compared few places before deciding on one. I never had issues.
