I grew up traveling to Staunton from Iowa for the 4th of July celebrations. When I had my own family, we traveled to Staunton for a visit. After a few days in town, my little boy asked if there were jobs there. He wanted to move! You certainly have a special town. ❤️
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Staunton two weeks ago. So charming, plus a trip down memory lane for me.

Thanks I've Been Bit :: A Travel Blog for coming to visit. We always ❤️ to see Visit Staunton, Virginia explored through the eyes of our visitors. Come back and visit soon. #lovestauntonEven if it was a whirlwind visit, Staunton, Virginia is definitely a destination I'll return to again and again. This city has so much to offer!
My visit began with a tour of The Blackburn Inn, the original site of the Old Western State Psychiatric Hospital. Constructed from 1825-1828, it was renovated in 1830 by Thomas R Blackburn, a protégé of Thomas Jefferson. After a short stint as medium-security prison, it has since become Virginia's newest, luxury boutique hotel. You'll see a number of the original architectural features maintained and restored to create a beautiful hotel that you won't want to leave! Be sure to climb the beautiful spiral staircase for some of the best views of the city.
You'll be mesmerized by the gorgeous architecture as you explore the heart of town. It's the only city in the United States where you can see architectural styles inspired by various countries around the world side by side! Be sure to head towards the train station and Woodrow Park for more stunning views of Staunton. Close by you'll find Sunspots Studios where you can watch glass being blown - and even do it yourself!
Hungry? There are plenty of incredible eats in town. If you're a seafood lover like me, you won't want to miss visiting BLU Point Seafood Co. Here you can get fresh Virginian oysters, crab cakes, blackened catfish and much more. Don't worry, there are plenty of 'turf' dishes in case your travelling companion isn't a fan of seafood.
Once you've fuelled up, head a little outside of town and visit the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia. This expansive outdoor museum shares the stories of those who shaped this area from the Indigenous who first resided here to those who colonized the area, including the first people who came from communities in the hinterlands of England, Germany, Ireland, and West Africa in the 1600s and 1700s.
These are just a few reasons to visit! There are also plenty of great craft breweries, the world’s only re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor playhouse and a plethora of outdoor recreation. With so much to offer, you'll visit Staunton over and over. Why? Because you belong here.
Love Staunton. I was born there and after relocating, we constantly came back to visit family. After all these years the family has slimmed but I still love visiting every chance I get. It will always be home.
My hometown that I love and really do miss alot I wish I never left there

I should have been suspect of this article when she said Harpers Ferry is in Maryland. But the dumbest comment is
"In fact, a series of bootlegger tunnels were dug under the streets (of Staunton) to facilitate this trade, many of which still remain today". There are no "bootlegger tunnels". Not in the 19th century (when there would be no reason for "bootlegger tunnels"), and certainly not now. Did she make this up, or is someone telling our visitors this stuff?

Huge thanks to the city of Staunton and the Virginia Tourism Board for the opportunity to bring color and joy to this already vibrant city! Although I live and run my painting business out of Charlottesville, Staunton has always been dear to our family so I am grateful to participate in the creative way-finding of the city. A few points to note: the rendering you see is a digital sketch (so proportions and shapes are a bit skewed). Also, the mountain vista is taken directly from an altered photo of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. I will be working hard over the next few weeks (when it's not raining!) on-site and appreciate meeting new friends and neighbors - so stop by and say hi! Finally, I hope this is just the beginning of many more murals to come to Staunton. Start working on your ideas - we need your vision and voice! Thanks again and now... back to painting!
