From looks of it. You should be asking the students. Looks like he may had a target at the start, so he may been on campus at some point. Since it went coed, most dorms in past use to require an id check for all male visitors. That may help locate a person of intrest. But it will be alot of work.

Check with middle school principal, as he may be a student that went through Staunton schools in the past.

Love how most all convos is only about his pants 👍

Check with the department of corrections. I'm sure he's another success story.

He kind of looks like a former Lee high student from a few years ago.

How is he even walking? Great pictures...he must have been identified already.

looking for some jail house justice!

Better turn yourself in—- great photo

Well...he can't get far with wearing his pants so low...

It looks like there's some one behind him

he must be covered in tattoo around the neck maybe??? he has the shirt buttoned up all the way trying to cover up???? Maybe??????

I mean he didnt have to committ armed robbery so he could get clothes that fit.

Looks like he is wearing poor fitting clothes over top of his clothes.

Y’all got the equipment to run a facial recognition on the photo but yet call for the help of the public.

His name is Toast. Get him cops.

He can't run. So they will get him

OMG the pants! The lacking of something in that brain 🙄

How could he hold a gun while holding his pants up

Finally a security camera that actually take a quality photo...banks should use them!!!

Confucious say.......easier for woman to run with dress up than man with pants down!😈😆

You check the churches with that collar.

He's been wearing those pants since he was 12.

Great photos!

Is he getting ready to go to the bathroom?!

Call him Waddles cause that's how he rolls

Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will arrive March 9, 2020 to examine all aspects of the Staunton Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services, J.E. Williams, Chief of Police announced today.

Verification by the team that the Staunton Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of–the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation- a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence, he said.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, March 9, 2020 beginning at 3:00 pm. The session will be conducted in the City Council Chambers located at Staunton City Hall, 116 West Beverley Street.

If for some reason an individual cannot speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, one may do so by telephone. The public may call (540) 332-3911 on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Staunton Police Department. Local contact is Captain L.A. Miller, 332-3845.

Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Staunton Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320 Gainsville, Virginia 20155.

The Staunton Police Department has to comply with all mandatory and 80 percent of other than mandatory standards in order to gain accredited status, Chief Williams said. The Accreditation Manager for the Staunton Police Department is Captain L.A. Miller. Assessors will review written materials; interview individuals; and visit offices and other places where compliance can be witnessed. The assessors are: Captain Michael Pheil of the LaGrange, GA Police Department and Captain Phillip Dunn of the Alcoa, TN Police Department. Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full Commission, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status, Captain Miller stated.

Accreditation is for four years, during which time the agency must be reviewed annually to ensure continued compliance with those standards under which they were initially accredited.

For more information regarding the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., please write the Commission at 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320 Gainsville, Virginia 20155 or call (703) 352-4225.

SMH these kids need some serious discipline. The government needs to stop interfering with real parents disciplining their kids! It didn’t hurt me to get my butt whipped and it sure isn’t going to hurt my kids or grandkids! There’s a huge difference between a spanking and beating ur kids/grandkids. I can honestly say I thank God my mom and grandparents whipped me cuz it helped make me a better person today to be disciplined.

Thanks for your great work! This is a little unnerving because Montgomery Hall Park is so close to our home.

First thank god and Staunton pd ! After that no thanks to their parents, sorry I was bad as they came as a child . But it’s lifestyles they are imitating. Look and listen to what your kids are watching and listening to and do something about it. It’s not race or age or area specific. It’s lyrics your looking for. I am to scared to bring a child into this world. I’d never sleep... to add defense attorney who gets this case I wish you nothing. Justice system is failing on that end. Gun in hand , guilty, hanging around kid with gun, guilty . No defense lawyers needed

Unnerving as well that they are not sitting in jail. Minor or not, they are a danger. What makes ya think the parents have any control? If they did would not have happened in the first place. Old enough to know better so old enough for punishment.

If released, why were they taken in to custody. Just wasted officers time. They know nothing will be done, so they just do not care. Spending a day/night in a cell will teach them a lesson.

Two people can have multiple kids, they are all good kids with the exception of one of them. Why is that one always in trouble? It's because of any of many reasons! Does the one kid make the parents bad? No people just like to make their opinions public knowledge. Does it change anything? Absolutely not!

Good job wrapping that one up!

Great work to the police. People are saying these days that kids don't have anything to do. I disagree. They would be off the street if they had chores and work to do. Nobody catered to earlier generations by providing them with entertainment. Most of us were taught respect and responsibility at home first. That is where the seeds of a good citizen are planted. Having electronic gadgets and other amenities handed to you without expectation of any effort on your part does nothing to instill responsibility and appreciation or respect. I don't mean slave labor nor difficult jobs but EVERY child, no matter the age should be taught and expected to DO something, either for the family, their neighbors, or the community in general. I am not blaming these parents either. I am speaking of youth in general.

Thank you ! I still believe this City needs something for these kids to do .

That 16 yr old just lost his mother for all of you with the "parent comments" Yes he was wrong but he's a great kid with a really good heart. He is suffering immensely 🥺 🥺 Furthermore, no one knows the entire story so instead of judging try praying please 🙏🙏

Their parents must be so proud of them !

Good job!!!!

Would have been better to keep them in juvie. Now they can rob again

Kathy Kitkat Fridley

Great job!

The Staunton Police Department has received several calls today from concerned citizens in reference to a telephone scam. Scammers have been calling individuals and claiming that their social security number was being “used improperly” in Texas. The scammers were claiming that the citizen needed to confirm their name, date of birth, and social security number as a result. Another caller was told there were warrants for his arrest due to his social security number being used improperly, but that he could avoid arrest by paying a fee.

As a reminder, the Social Security Administration will never contact you by phone requesting personal information. Law enforcement will also never request payment in lieu of an arrest. If you receive a scam telephone call, simply hang up and do not provide any personal or payment information.

I've been getting these calls forever. I keep trying to give them the number of Staunton PD so y'all can send an officer to arrest me but then they just hang up....🤔🙄

Thanks for the heads up SPD.

This has been happening in North Carolina as well.

It going on every where. A friend of mine in NOVA said he got no less that 8 calls on Monday all claiming the social Security.fraud.

I'm glad you called me because I was just gonna call you to discuss the extended warranty on your car... do you have a minute?

Verizon added scam protection to my phone plan and it says possible scam when I get those calls so I know not to answer and block the number.

FRAUD PREVENTION

Thank you to the City of Staunton Information Technology department for these cyber safety tips!

Online Shopping Tips

1. Do not use public Wi-Fi for any shopping activity.
Public Wi-Fi networks can be very dangerous, especially during the holiday season. Public Wi-Fi can potentially grant hackers' access to your usernames, passwords, texts and emails. For instance, before you join a public Wi-Fi titled "Apple__Store," make sure you first look around to see if there's actually an Apple Store in your vicinity, and thus, confirm that it is a legitimate network. To help stay secure, you should always be on the lookout for the lock symbol on your webpage.

2. Look for the lock symbol on websites.
When visiting a website look for the “lock” symbol before entering any personal and/or credit card information. The lock may appear in the URL bar, or elsewhere in your browser. Additionally, check that the URL for the website has “https” in the beginning. These both indicate that the site uses encryption to protect your data.

3. Know what the product should cost.
If the deal is too good to be true, then it may be a scam. Check out the company on “ResellerRatings.com”. This site allows users to review online companies to share their experiences purchasing from those companies. This will give you an indication of what to expect when purchasing from them.

4. One-time use credit card numbers.
Many banks are now offering a single use credit card number for online shopping. This one-time number is associated with your account and can be used in place of your credit card number. This way, if the credit card number becomes exposed, it cannot be used again. Check with your credit card company to see if they have this option available.

5. Keep your computer secure.
When using your computer to do your holiday shopping, remember to keep your Anti-virus software up to date and apply all software patches. Never save usernames, passwords or credit card information in your browser and periodically clear your offline content, cookies and history. You will want to keep your computer as clean as possible for online shopping. The world of online shopping can bring lots of new products to your door step and can prove to be a lot of fun finding that special gift. Just remember to be careful so that you don’t make your data a special gift to cybercriminals.

In-Store Shopping Tips

6. Always use credit cards for purchases.
Avoid using your ATM or debit card while shopping. In the event that your debit card is compromised, criminals can have direct access to the funds from your bank account. This could cause you to miss bill payments and overdraw your account. When using a credit card, you are not using funds associated with your bank account. This means you are better protected by your credit card company’s fraud protection program. If you pay off the credit card balance each month, you won’t pay interest and your banking information will be protected.

7. Don’t leave purchases in the car unattended.
Criminals can be watching and will consider breaking into your car to get the merchandise you just purchased. If you must leave some items in your car, consider leaving them in the trunk or glove compartment rather than in a visible location.

8. Beware of “porch pirates.”
When shopping online and receiving purchases by mail, make sure you are always tracking your packages. The US Postal Service, FedEX and UPS all have systems to track your packages, and all three utilize tracking numbers that can be used to figure out where your item is and when it should be delivered to your home. However, the only surefire way to thwart porch pirates is to not have packages delivered to your home at all. Consider having your holiday packages delivered to a family member, your workplace, or a trusted neighbor!
Remember, always trust your instincts. If an email or an attachment seem suspicious, don't let your curiosity put your computer at risk! ~ Happy Holidays and safe shopping!

Get Rid of Unwanted Medications

OCTOBER 10, 2019 — If you have prescription drugs at home that have expired or you no longer need them, you can safely dispose of them Saturday, Oct. 26 on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Local health and public safety officials are encouraging residents to clear their medicine cabinets and turn in medications—no questions asked—to prevent prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands.

You can drop off unwanted medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 26 at the following locations:
•Fisher Auto Parts parking lot in Staunton (beside Augusta Health Urgent Care, 851 Statler Blvd.)
•Neighborhood Walmart parking lot in Waynesboro, 1211 West Broad St.

Sharps, such as needles, syringes and other medical devices with sharp edges, will not be accepted. The event could end before 2 p.m. if capacity is reached; however, Staunton residents can safely and anonymously dispose of unwanted medications year-round at the CVS Pharmacy located at 1302 Barterbrook Rd.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is organized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and occurs twice a year in the spring and fall. The service is free, and those who turn in drugs remain anonymous.

The DEA reported that the spring Take Back Day brought in 937,443 pounds, or about 469 tons, of unused or expired prescription medication. Since the DEA began the event in the fall of 2010 it has collected more than 11.8 million pounds of medications.

Unused or expired prescription drugs are a public safety issue, leading to potential accidental poisoning, misuse and overdose. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.

More than six million Americans have misused controlled prescription drugs, according to a 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, and the majority of abused medications were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

If you know someone who needs treatment for prescription drug abuse, you can locate treatment services in and around Staunton at findtreatment.samhsa.gov/locator?sAddr=24401.

Was this believed to be two males, females, one of each? Was anything else besides money taken? This lacks so much detail and why is this Tuesday and we now hearing about it?

Dennis it’s on Grubert Ave. on the right just after you turn off Churchville Ave.

And who took the picture outside of the store?

Vick I am so sorry I am glad no one was hurt badly I hope they catch them

And we just now hearing about it.

Let me add that a month ago I had a situation at 3:30 am. Someone was in my back yard trying to get in. Then went around to front. I put light on and got pics while on the phone but with 911. I was also armed with s very angry dog. I gave clear warning that if a breach occurred he would be shot. SPD was great with 4 cars arriving. It turned out to be my next door neighbor totally intoxicated. What is bad on my part is that at night we go to bed totally unprepared for a fire or intruder. I have also taken stock of things around my property and house to better offer safety for both me and first responders. So think about ways to fortify your doors. Don't put phone on airplane mode at night and other things that people personally affect you. Just be vigilant especially if you have to go outside at night.

We live in the area and this is very unsettling. We always think our little neighborhood is so safe, hope the victim is doing okay. Keep us updated please!

I believe we do need more info from police. Is this a gang getting into the neighborhood. Kids, adults. This allegedly happened where Peck and Stewart Converge.

Thanks for posting . I’m sure your detectives will solve and uphold the law

Prayers

Well if we knew what these suspects looked like that would help allot!!

if this is another senior/ homeless hit... then... we might need to start looking out for them

Wow really it takes multiple punks to get what they want? It's really sad that staunton has trash like this but I guess they can't make it in a real city. You will be found and get what's coming to you.

Please join us tomorrow, October 2 at the Staunton Public Library!

The Staunton Police Department received multiple calls for service yesterday morning from citizens concerned for the well-being of a dog being pulled in a bicycle trailer. Our animal control officers located the bicyclist and his dog, Diva, and verified that the animal was safe but in need of a bath and some medicine. The owner of the Staunton Dog Wash came in on her day off and gave Diva a free bath, and staff at the Staunton Veterinary Clinic donated some needed medication. Thank you to everyone in the community that came together to assist us!

We also learned that the bicyclist, Flynn Donoho, has biked about 50,000 miles to raise awareness for cancer research and to support the American Cancer Society.

I’m inspired by good people who do good things for needy people who do good things for others while having needs of their own, this is a classic example . STAUNTON POLICE DEPARTMENT along with others who came to the aid of a humble citizen ,doing GOOD THINGS for a GOOD CAUSE💕👍🎊❤️

That’s great! Now hopefully he’ll be as dedicated to his dog as he is to cycle to research! 🤦🏻‍♂️

I met this man at Walmart and he had NOTHING BUT GREAT things to say about Staunton PD!!! He said that he had no idea they would nice to him much less go the "extra mile" for him! GREAT JOB Staunton PD! I always hear people complaining it was nice to hear him tell anyone that would listen how nice you treated him! <3

I had the pleasure of talking to this man and Diva. They are both very sweet. I told him about our beautiful park and he asked if there was a dog park. I said yes and he plans on biking there. He needs his bike repaired. I gave hime some money but not nearly enough to fix it. I hope someone can help him more.

Such an awesome story of caring for the man and his best friend!! He is doing such an admirable thing to bring awareness to this dreaded disease that has taken so many way to soon! Prayers for them both as they continue their journey🙏🙏 A special thanks to the people of Staunton who brought awareness to the Staunton Police Department and to the wonderful people at Staunton Veterinary Clinic and Staunton Dog Wash for offering your loving care to this special dog who is always by his daddy’s side.. such a very special bond these two have! God Bless You All!!!

Wow I wish people were more concerned about the panhandlers standing on the corners with their dogs making them sit and lay in very hot temperatures in the dead of Summer .... or all the transients who have to have one or two dogs that walk with them ....rather than being concerned about a dog being pulled on a cart.

I personally love the veterinarians at the Staunton Veterinary Clinic. They go above and beyond the call of duty for animals.

Thank you to the Staunton Dog Wash and the Staunton Police Department for helping this man and his dog that is biking to make people aware of this dreaded disease. Praying they will have a safe journey where ever they go ♥️💜✝️🙏👏👏

Love this, Staunton Police! You’re the best!!

Saw him at walmart today!! He gave away something of his to another homeless guy. Made my heart so happy to see that he is still giving even when he doesn’t have much.

Awesome! Also, I had no idea Staunton has a dog wash!

Big shout out to Staunton Veterinarian Clinic and Staunton Dog Wash! Thank you for your services to this fella.

Great job to everyone that went the extra mile!!! Extra Thanks to Staunton Dog Wash, Staunton PD and Staunton Veterinary Clinic!

Thank you all so much for helping them. Thanks to the man on the bike for all his hard work on helping with the cancer research !!!

Saw him at Walmart this morning! Dr Mims at Staunton Vet Clinic is awesome!

This is the sweet Staunton of my childhood. Isn’t it wonderful that it still exists and not just in my memories. Thank you to all that gave of your time!💖💖

Great work Officer Ayers! Way to get the entire community involved to help this pup and her dad!

Thank you Staunton for being such a concerned community!!

All of th DC neglected and abused animals in Staunton, and busybodies have to pick on this man on a mission who has a dog with him. I didnt personally assess the dog's condition, but I'll bet there are at least 100 dogs in city limits that are in worse shape than this dog

He stayed here at the Augusta Motel for one night. He came up and talked with us a bit on the office deck. Some of the amazing stories he talked about. He is actually an amazing guy. And what he does is even more inspirational. 😊💪🙏🏆🎗 <3

Staunton Veterinary Clinic has been our go to for a couple of years now and we have never looked back! Dr. Mims and his team are amazing and our animals love them! Thanks to everyone involved, y’all are great!

Pat at Staunton Dog Wash is amazing, as is Dr. Mims at Staunton Veterinary Clinic, and Staunton PD!

I love seeing this kind of community involvement! We need more of this in the news 🙂

This makes my heart so happy ❤️ Our community is so amazing!

Love this! Proud of our community! Best wishes to man and dog! What a bond that must be 🥰
