People are so quick to say don't leave your car running unattended, but some of us have young children to take to their baby sitter in the mornings. We shouldn't make our kids freeze because people can't keep their hands off of what's not theirs!

Have extra keys made. Start your vehicle with one and lock it while its warming up. Keep a second in your wallet/purse.

What is up with all these people stealing vehicles that’s being pre started!!! Get a job and get ya own car....

Other than the tattoos (not a slam, I love my tats and want a million more), he looks clean shaven, well kept, nicely dressed, clean cut, etc.... But those eyes give me the freaking heebie jeebies!!!

Prayers🙏 for Matt #KEEPYAHEADUP

I worked with Matt last year he was a hard worker sorry to hear about him doing something like that.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Like brother!Like sister!

I feel much better being able to sleep knowing he is behind bars now! Good job Staunton PD!

Now where are the vehicles he stole ?

When you guys find him can we get an update?? Please and thank you!

Hope they find him.. he knocked on my door this morning and I called the cops!

Has anyone found the vehicles he stole , I live in Augusta county where he was a suspect in stealing my Ford ranger pick up . ..

It should be 2 attempts on stealing a vehicle cause a couple weeks ago he tried to steal mine

Don't give them the opportunity. Don't leave your car running unattended.

SCAM ALERT

Multiple medical offices in Staunton received phone calls yesterday from a male claiming to be a US Marshal. The male told office personnel they had federal arrest warrants but could avoid arrest by sending several thousand dollars in money orders to him. Office personnel contacted the Staunton Police Department and no money was sent to the scammer.

Please remember that law enforcement agencies will never demand money in lieu of an arrest. If you receive a phone call requesting money from someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer, hang up and do not provide any personal information over the phone. The Staunton Police Department can be reached 24 hours a day at 540.332.3842.

NEWS RELEASE

Approximately one year ago the City of Staunton completed significant upgrades to its E911 call system (NextGen 911). Part of that upgrade provided for a text-to-911 feature, but wireless carriers had not yet updated their networks to accommodate this feature. All wireless carriers have completed the necessary updates to their networks and the text-to-911 feature is now live in Staunton.

The text-to-911 feature will be especially beneficial to callers who are hearing impaired and in situations when a citizen is in danger and is unable to speak freely with a public safety dispatcher. Only SMS (text messages) should be sent using this feature. Not all wireless carriers support MMS, or picture messages, to the text-to-911 system.

The text-to-911 feature is not designed to replace the traditional 911 system. Citizens are reminded to call 911 in an emergency if able to do so.

The text-to-911 feature is available in the City of Staunton. Other jurisdictions may not have this technology in place at this time. All Virginia localities are required to have text-to-911 no later than July 1, 2020. As with traditional 911 phone calls, the system should only be used in an emergency.

Staunton Police Officers recently participated in our annual “Shop With a Cop” program. Since 2004, the Staunton Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association has sponsored this event to benefit local children and their families during the holiday season. Each child had an opportunity to shop for presents for their family at Walmart before going to the Stonewall Jackson Hotel to wrap gifts and enjoy lunch with their officer. NEWS RELEASE

The Staunton Police Department is investigating the report of a male impersonating an investigator from the Social Security Administration. The male approached a residence in Staunton, displayed a silver badge and claimed that the citizen’s account had “fraud activity” and that police would be responding if he was not given money. The male left the area after the citizen declined to speak with him further.

Social Security Administration employees and investigators will never go door to door requesting money or any form of payment. As a reminder, law enforcement will never contact you by phone to request money in lieu of arrest either. There is no evidence to suggest this incident is related to the incident reported yesterday involving a white male impersonating personnel from the City of Staunton Public Works.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing a suit with a silver badge. The male was also described to have a heavy foreign accent. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call either the Staunton Police Department at 540.332.3842 or Crimestoppers at 1.800.322.2017.

It literally says on the post that they weren't taken from actual graves. And still people are freaking out over exactly that. Come on people.

They didn’t want the ones at the grave sites as most have been replaced by cheaper models! My Mom paid thousands for headstone and heavy metal vase but for some reason has been replaced with some cheap plastic. They won’t talk to me regarding vase and Mom can’t as she has dementia.

Seams like a inside job if they knew where the old scraps where stored at.

There is a special place for people who would do something like this, and it's not Heaven!

My Father’s, Grandparents and Aunt’and Uncles grave sites are there and I've gone many times to find flowers and wresths removed or stolen & very unkempt grounds! Repeated complaints to the Office management has gone and fallen on deaf ears!! Really? You have our money but do nothing to keep this place scared and holy! Shame on you!!

Stealing from the dead....lowest life forms do that :(

My opinion anyone who steals, (especially off a grave site) the good Lord Should Send a Lightening Bolt Roght Down upon them !!!!! Bam

What is wrong with people!!! They will have to answer for this one day!!! Oak Lawn really needs some kind of security. Not the first time something like this has happened. 😡

I work at one of the local scrap yards ... we have been notified!! My grand parents are buried there also ... so sad for someone to stoop so Low!!! 😢😢

They are taking them for scrap and getting money.

What in the world would you do with them? They are not gold or silver.

Awful! So much disrespect these days!

I hope you find this person or people. All the best... sad they were stolen.

Need to go by and check in my Familys!!!! Prayers for that or those theives!!

Breaks my heart that someone somebody would steal from a cemetery!! My grandparents are buried in there plus other family members

If I go up there and find my families grave had been robbed what do I do. My father, grandfathers, and great grandmother are buried there.......

Very sad world we live in these days!!!

People do the most evil things and I don’t get it😲

Inside job, some knew they were there

What lowlifes to do this!

How sick can people be I hope they catch them

Low lifes will steal anything..I hope karma smacks them in the face

I don’t want to state the obvious, but check with local metal recyclers to see who is turning stuff in.

my family is there i am definitely going there today to see if theirs is gone this makes me sick they can’t even rest in peace

Watch out for Halloween grave yards. They might show up somewhere.

Prayers to who ever was involved 🙏🙏🙏

But letting people go around through super shoes is great let's just block the intersection and not let people get home between there 👍👍👍 keep up the good work

The person that caused the accident is a friend of mine. He is ok. He had a seizure and blacked out. He has never had a seizure before this.

Updates?????

Prayers for this guy!! Too bad most of these post are someone worried about how they gonna get someplace!! Smh

I honestly don’t understand how people do what they do sometimes.

I want to go to El Puerto

Dang Johnny Simonetti, you did it again!?

Cheyenne Ramsey

That pole is ok 👌 I see them in the county like that all the time😂😂

What happens if you live between the closed area?

That's easy money. All the wire is still in the air and not mangled on the ground.

Frontier Drive it’s also at a standstill

where the vehicle that hit the pole?

It’s still blocked

The world in such a hurry .why ??????

Did anyone get hurt

Can you get in and out of the Super Shoes shopping center?

Prayers !!!

Amanda Lightner Moore! I guess I’ll be taking the bypass tonight

Can I get to Mary Gray Ln?

Wow crooked

FYI ... Greenville Ave is open

Melissa do you go this way

Amanda Bartley not sure if you go this way or not.

Thank ALL officers involved! I commend your daily and ,often times, dangerous efforts to protect all of us. I SALUTE YOU!

heard all the sirens, wondered what was going on. glad yall got her and no one was hurt.

and this will probably be let out on personal recognizance as soon as she gets a court date......just so she can offend again

I wish you could update faster when the kids are in school.

Candice Potter.... this must be what you heard

This crap has gotta stop. Especially when I get a recorded message from my kids school saying this happened and a cop went to the school. Do a high speed chase somewhere else. Not sure if this exact one went near ware elementary but ive gotten like 3 calls in 2 months about it

Alix Lee Highs finest right here 😂🤣

There gotta be a reason what she didn't besides running

Seen them flying up in the apartments after her. Hope this is a wake up call for her and she will get off the dope

I heard all that noise!!

Eric Kuremsky is this the chase that went past your house

I was standing outside off Churchville Ave. when all these cop cars whizzed by....😳

Elias Contreras this must be what we saw and heard

And women say they are better drivers than men, lol

I saw this too. 10 cops went down Greenville Ave. while I was in the gym! Thanks for posting. I was wondering what was going on!

I know her aunt Dolly Ann

I'm sure that was just precaution. The kids were likely all safe in class at that time.

Good job officers

I used to work with her at Western State Hospital! What the hell happened to her???

Thank you everyone for the tips. The juvenile has been located.

Picked up in front of my house last night.

I applaud you people. Like to see when a child is found safe instead of worse circumstances.

She walked past my house about 2 hours ago with no shoes on only socks.

Im glad she safe

Seen on Ritchie Blvd around 8pm

Is this for all Rx or just narcotic painkillers? I ask because I have several Rxs leftover of various types after going through chemo 2 years ago; none of which are pain killers. I do have a script for a pain killer, but I still occasionally use it (once a month or less.)

SCAM ALERT

The Staunton Police Department recently received information from a citizen about a new scam. The citizen received a call from what appeared to be a local phone number, and upon answering the call was informed that she had won a free stay at a hotel due to using an American Express credit card. The citizen told the caller that she does not have an American Express credit card and the male became irate on the phone. This was likely an attempt to obtain credit or personal information. Be aware that scammers are easily able to “spoof” local phone numbers when calling from anywhere in the world.

Just speak Dutch to them. It confuses the hell out of em

I got that one and HUNG UP! Try not to answer these and block them. This was the only one I answered because it was local and only said hello then hung up! I like Kenneth's idea lol!

This happens to me three or four times a week whether it's a vacation or student loan debt forgiveness. But they all come from local numbers usually 540280xXxX. And if you get a missed call and try to call them back somebody will answer and just say I have no idea what you're talking about.

Been getting a lot of calls that are shown as local that are similar claiming to be a resort.

A heads up as well, if the number has the same area code and first 3 digits of the actual number as you do most likely its a scam as well, originally from Augusta County but now live in California and thats how you can tell here ive noticed... unless its someone actually calling but 10/10 calls for me its a scam.

I glad everything turned out well, but as a parent of a child at this school I'm a bit upset that I wasn't informed right away. Instead parents only received a letter from the principal that was sent home with the students. Something like this I want to be informed immediately, not after school by a letter! 😡

The Staunton Police Department offers a senior citizen call-in program that allows seniors to check in with the Staunton Police Department each morning. The program was developed a number of years ago to assist the senior citizens of our community who have no relatives or whose relatives live a long distance from the City of Staunton. This program provides seniors with someone to contact every morning to ensure that they are okay and not in need of assistance.

Participation in the program is voluntary and free of charge. A local resident informed us that certain businesses are now charging a monthly fee for a similar service, so we would like to take this opportunity to inform residents about our program. If you would like further information about this program please call us at 540.332.3857.

Staunton is a lot better in helping those who need it. They have a program that if people get in trouble the first time or so and you have a mental illness they dont just throw you in jail. You are on probation a year or two... you have to show up in court twice a month with others like you... your p.o. tells the judge how you have been those 2 weeks... if you go to counseling or psychiatrist... take meds... go to class... the judge really encourages you. If you got in trouble 1 time you go to jail 1 night... up to 3 times is 3 nights. After that you would be out of the program. If you make it through a year the charge goes away. This program is working so well to get ppl back on track.

God bless you for doing this! Can temporary calls in be handled? (Like when my husband is out of town for a three week trip?)

This is great. Thank you for protecting our seniors.

that's awesome !! what a great police force we have here.

How old do you consider senior citizen

Do u have to live in Staunton citt?

This is humanity at its best. One more reason #WhyILiveWhereILive

Waynesboro needs a program like this. There are so many senior citizens here who have no one close by.

Some of our farm networks check on each other daily by radio.

God Bless for doing this. I would also like to encourage neighbors to keep up with Seniors in their own neighborhoods.

Well done Staunton this is so so awesome thanks so much for taking the extra time and resources to make sure they are safe chief Williams well done sir if you ever need volunteers please let me know I would be glad to help I hope and pray it stays in your hands for ever finally the elderly has a voice and a opportunity to feel safe and their love ones don't have to worry about the safety of their love ones thank you again God bless all

That's awesome. I will pass this on to a few seniors that are up in age and live alone.

Awww this is so sweet! And shame on those other businesses for charging! I’d let little maw maws and paw paws call me any morning. My sweet little elderly patients are some of my favorite!

Thank you. With the aging population in our area I think this is a timely idea. God Bless all of you!

A great program blessings to all I am sure many people feels a lot safer knowing someone cares !!

This is great, and I didn’t know it existed.

This is what we do at wintergreen too

What an amazing service to the community!

This is a wonderful thing to do for the aging.👍👍👍

Super idea. I call my elderly mom every day at 8 am.

Thank you for providing this free service to our aging community.

This is wonderful. Thank you so much for all you do for us

What a wonderful program!!!

The dispatcher is one of the thankless jobs that many forget about. They work around the clock missing families at night weekends and holidays. Sometimes waiting for work to come their way. When it does then they handle everything thrown at them. Huge responsibility. Dispatching is an amazing job. You are the first line of any caller for any issue. I say thank you to all of the dispatchers out there. You get everything in order and send the troops when trouble calls. You are there to give instructions to help callers before the rescue teams arrive. You are the hidden gem in the emergency services world. Dispatchers deserve all of Our recognition. For every emergency -there was a dispatcher that was the first contact to handle that initial call. Hats off to dispatchers. Cheers. Work hard and be rewarded with the silence that you got help on the way. A humble but rewarding position.
